I run free STEAM ( science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) sessions every Monday morning for babies, toddlers and preschoolers from my home in Saffron Walden. Since the lockdown the sessions have been held online over zoom and include primary age children too.
I started my STEAM sessions on my own initiative when my middle son was 9 months (he’s just turned 6) to get small children interested in science through a combination of play, paint, sensory- both visual and tactile, using a variety of mediums including soap, sand, glue, ice, flowers, colour, water etc.
In previous sessions we have watched water climb, travel, we have explored and created conveyor belts, made suspension bridges, running rivers, created actual rainbows, made pumping hearts, working lungs, explored the composition of blood and much much more.
Mums and Tots/Kids Bible morning is online at the moment but will resume to being held at my house in Saffron Walden once restrictions ease. The Bible morning is on a Friday every other week and lasts for about 45 minutes, and is normally followed by a fellowship meal, however at the moment its only online and starts at 10am.
