Namaste Dementia Care is a free, personalised service for people living with advanced dementia, who are in the communities of West Essex and East Herts.
Namaste Care is a person-centred approach, supporting people with advanced dementia to engage in meaningful activities to promote an improved quality of life.
The service involves trained Namaste Dementia Care volunteers delivering one-to-one, personalised Namaste Care sessions, to a person in their own home (with their carer present), or residential home. The sessions take place weekly and last up to 2 hours each, with a course of up to 10 sessions offered to individuals.
The activities in a session may include:
• offering gentle touch, e.g. through hand massage
• playing favourite music
• making and looking through a memory box
• reading favourite books and poems
• encouraging gentle movement
